Candlelit Walk 2023

Tickets SOLD OUT

Ulverston’s Candlelit Walk ‘23

Tuesday 31st October 2023 5:45PM – 8:30PM
Gill Banks, LA12 7BP

Join us on Halloween night for a spooky stroll into Ulverston’s candlelit woods. 🕯️ 🎃 🍂

Hundreds of candles and fiery-flares will cast their glow on the flickering, frothy waters of the beck by night.

Long socks and strong hearts are recommended because this year we are bravely exploring the world of killer plants with the theme Venomous Spectacular!

Think poisonous plants 🌿 hungry carnivorous ones 🦟and spine-tingling sci-fi specimens like Triffids and the bloodcurdling brassica that is Audrey 2 😱😱😱

A terrifying tangle of such untrustworthy plants will feature in our fire-lit shadowscreens & installations by artists Ellie Chaney, Nat Tyson, Tracey Escolme, Hannah Clarke, Lindsay Ward & Jennie Dennett.

🌳 John Hall will be performing simultaneously as a tree and an axeman!

🔥 And on the far side of the beck beware of plants that have gained the gift of fire in a display by Matrix Circus.

🕸️ Song Birds ‘Feel Good Singers’ aka “The Creepy Choir” are back with chilling tunes to entertain us, and Cathy Sullivan will be sharing kamishibai stories. Amy Clouds will be singing & wolf-howling to the close to celebrate Halloween on The Cumbria Way in what has become ‘the traditional way’ as the Candlelit Walk lights-up the night for its 12th year.

So join us once again for this magical stroll full of strange and enchanting sights.

Choose the best start time to suit your crew & the performances you want to catch (twenty minute slots from 5.45pm – 8.05pm) and get yourself a ticket for £1.75 per person to help us cover costs for our volunteer-run event.

The ticketing helps us manage numbers on the path and keep it safe amidst the fiery features. So help us out, get a ticket and get yourself to the candles at the allotted time.

Matrix Circus will perform close to the start time of each slot near the start of the walk.

Here are the start times for the other performances in our Gazebo at the start/finish of the circular walk:

6.00pm – Kamishibai stories with Cathy

6.40pm – Song Birds “Creepy Choir”

7.00pm – Kamishibai stories with Cathy

7.30pm – Song Birds “Creepy Choir”

7.50pm – Music with Amy Clouds

All ages welcome, the spook level is mild. If you don’t mind mud on your wheels the path is fine for prams and intrepid wheelchair users. Note that it is PROPER DARK up The Gill! If you or your little ones are less-keen on darkness, come for the dusk-slot at 5.45pm. The walk takes about 20 minutes.

The event will run whatever the weather but the candle count depends on the heavens.
