Elegy – Schubert’s Trout
26 October @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm
Chamber music has always been at the heart of Ulverston International Music Festival. Close-up collaboration with a group of musicians is one of the most important aspects of music-making and one of the most enjoyable for audiences to watch. It has been sorely missed by both during the pandemic, so it seems fitting to return to live music on The Coro stage with this most intimate of musical genres.
The programme opens with a brief moment to reflect on the sense of loss of the last eighteen months in Rachmaninov’s elegiac trio, before moving on to celebrate the solace nature has provided for many with Dvorak’s ‘Silent Woods’. Bottesini’s dazzling duo for bass and violin provides some much-needed, uplifting musical fireworks, before Schubert’s famous and ever-popular ‘Trout’ quintet should send you away in jolly and optimistic mood, in spite of an ironically-presented undertone of tragedy.
A short note on safety
Your safety and comfort continues to be our top priority. Event capacities will be limited to maintain space in the auditorium, while all Coro staff and volunteers will continue to wear face coverings. Although no longer mandatory, we encourage all visitors to wear face coverings when indoors, keep a safe distance from others, use hand sanitisers and wash hands regularly, and check in with the NHS Test and Trace app if able to do so.
