Furness Abbey Autumn Fair
20 October @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm
This year we are holding our first Furness Abbey Fellowship ‘Autumn Fair at Furness Abbey’ to create an enjoyable and atmospheric seasonal experience.
We will be joined by The Iron Shepherds living history group who will be setting up some of their medieval camp to display the crafts, food and the lifestyle of the medieval peasant. We are also very excited to bring you Lake District storyteller Steve Wharton who, through spoken word and song, will share the story of Loki the norse god of mischief. Loki is a figure who has captured the imagination of audiences from the 8th century to the present day. This will be a superb entertainment!
The icing on the cake is the news that Master Albert Harvey, Alchemist, will now be joining us to set up his medieval scientific laboratory to distill and create magical recipes. If you want to learn the secret of transmuting base metals into gold then you MUST come along and meet him.
There will be children’s competitions; a halloween fancy dress, a pumpkin lantern competition, bobbing for apples and, weather permitting, a gargoyle hunt around the abbey grounds. There will be a small fee for entering the gargoyle hunt, fancy dress and pumpkin lantern competitions.
Entry to the fair will be normal English Heritage entry price but for residents of Barrow with proof of a current council tax bill we will ask for a voluntary donation entrance fee of just £2. English Heritage members will be welcome on their current membership card.
