South Cumbria Musical Festival

20 March - 25 March

sax

The South Cumbria Musical Festival was formed in 1976 and has developed over the years to become one of the most respected competitive events in the country. The Festival is well known for its high standards, friendliness and efficient organisation. It gives competitors an opportunity to perform on a stage in a beautifully refurbished venue, with ideal facilities.

All aspects of the performing arts are catered for in the many and varied selection of classes in music and speech. Individuals, schools and groups of all ages and standards can acquire invaluable experience and have the benefit of performing before an audience. The helpful comments and advice given by the renowned and often international adjudicators engaged by the Festival, gives competitors the stimulation to go on to further achievements.

We have made some changes to our Syllabus for 2023.

The 2022 Festival saw the participation of a number of performers in non-competitive classes. To encourage more participants who don’t wish to take part in competitive classes
we have introduced non-competitive classes in all disciplines. We hope this will encourage more people to take part in the Festival. We have also combined a small number of speech classes to streamline the Syllabus. Unfortunately, we have had to make a slight increase to the entry fees this year to reflect the increased running costs of the Festival. This is the first time we have had to increase the entry fees since 2010!

Our Gala Concert showcasing Festival contestants past and present, with guest artistes, will take place on Friday 31st March, provisionally at St. Mary’s Church, Dalton.
