A touch of the West End is coming to South Cumbria, thanks to a local singing coach, who has put out the call for enthusiastic singers to join her.

Grace Heap, originally from Grange-over-Sands, has enjoyed a career as both a performer and professional Vocal Coach, and is bringing Sing Space’s South Cumbria Musical Theatre Choir to Ulverston.

This adult choir is open to all, from those who consider themselves complete beginners (but would love to give it a go!), to experienced vocalists and seasoned professionals. Everyone is welcome!

We are looking for keen singers who love Musical Theatre, and want the chance to work with a professional Voice Coach whilst enjoying “belting out show-tunes together”. Sing Space make sure their arrangements suit all: whether you want to sing the melody line in the comfort of a crowd, or take a complex harmony or solo line.

“Allow yourself to unwind with us every Thursday evening through the joy of group singing! Connect with new people, belt out your favourite show tunes and enjoy the many benefits of singing with others, while learning to get the most out of your voice” said Grace.

“Singing is so good for mental health, we all benefit from singing and from the social aspect of singing together. People have told me that singing is the best part of their week, and that it relieves stress. I know what joy singing can bring and I want to enable as many people in our area as possible to experience that”.

Launch day will be 21st September at 7:45pm. Rehearsals will be held at Croftlands Community Centre, in Ulverston, Cumbria and the choir will meet weekly for 90 minutes. Members will be given the opportunity to take part in local performance events throughout the year and members who have secured their seat before 1st September will also be given the opportunity to register for the chance to sing with Gareth Malone, OBE, on his tour and in the West End this year.

The choir will be singing hits ranging from popular Musicals like Les Mis, West Side Story and Mamma Mia as well as discovering new material.

“Each session will also be live-streamed, so any registered members who can’t make a session in person can still join in, from our private members group which will contain all music and lyrics.”

The termly fee is £125.40 for 12 x 90 minute sessions and members can divide this fee into 3 equal payments to help spread the cost. Booking is essential as choir seats are limited.
