Steam to the Hills – Official Lake District Guided Walk

Start point: Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway (La’al Ratty) Station
Length: 9.6 km (5.9 miles) with 299m (972ft) of ascent
Time: 4.5 hours (approx).
The railway journey, on the historic narrow gauge railway, is through spectacular scenery. The moderate walk across the fells passes archaeological remains from different eras ranging from Bronze Age to Tudor with a Roman Bath house in Muncastle Castle grounds. On a clear day the views of the mountains and the sea are first class.
We will be catching the 10:25 Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway (La’al Ratty) train from Ravenglass and getting off at Eskdale Green by special arrangement with the railway. The cost for the train is £9 for adults and £6 for children. This should be paid at the start of the walk.
The fells can be wet and boggy. The walk has detours to avoid the worst and most of the walk is on reasonable paths and tracks.
Participants will need to dress appropriately for the terrain and weather and bring a packed lunch.
