Ulverston Music Festival Winter Series

16 December @ 7:30 pm

Ulverston Music Festival announces its Winter Series, presenting five captivating concerts from November to March, all at Ulverston Parish Church, featuring our resident Steinway concert grand piano. Great music right on our doorstep, featuring international artists.

Julian Arp and Sacha Rattle will open the series performing a trio of trios, written for clarinet, cello and piano. Brahms and Beethoven you may know, but Frühling’s beautifully melodic Clarinet Trio is a gem, waiting to be discovered.
In December, pianist Viv McLean and actress Susan Porrett come to Ulverston, to bring you Divine Fire. A compelling narration with Chopin, telling the story of Chopin’s relationship with the authoress George Sand, plus there’ll be some mince pies to get you into the festive spirit!

In February, we welcome students from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire for a total immersion into Bach’s ‘48’ Books I & II of The Well-Tempered Clavier. Each book is a ground-breaking compendium and designed to inspire and stretch keen keyboard students. This is a wonderful opportunity to hear some amazing piano from up and coming young international musicians.

March brings a concert of passion and power, with Beethoven’s Kreutzer Sonata and Strauss’ Violin Sonata. These will be performed by Anthony Hewitt and Roman Simović who led the London Symphony Orchestra in Simon Rattle’s Mahler 9 swan-song at this year’s Proms.

Don’t miss this chance to brighten up your winter with some magical classical performances!
