A prime example of such a work is Bach’s majestic Mass in B minor\, a pillar of Western music\, described by Hubert Parry as ‘the mightiest choral work ever written’. It comes as something of a surprise\, then\, to learn that it is in fact a compilation of many pieces composed over a period of some thirty-five years\, put together by the composer shortly before his death\, and that his purpose in producing this Mass remains a matter of some conjecture.

DESCRIPTION:On 15th May 1850 the foundation stone was laid for the Sir John Barrow Monument on Hoad Hill\, and Ulverston Town Band was there! This was the first documentary evidence of the band’s existence.\nTo mark our 175th birthdays\, the band will be playing a concert next to the monument on Sunday 18th May between 2pm and 4pm (weather permitting).\nWe’d love to see you up there if you are able\, but I’m sure you will hear us from the bottom of Hoad too!\nThanks to band member Katharine for our fabulous artwork.
