SUMMARY:Darol Anger & Bruce Molsky
DESCRIPTION:Concert tickets: Book here \nStreaming tickets: Book here \nPresented in partnership with Live To Your Living Room. If you buy a streaming ticket\, the show is available to watch for 72 hours after the concert. You need one streaming ticket per device/household. \nDarol and Bruce have been musical explorers together for years\, sharing a creative universe that’s resulted in some epic collaborations\, crashing each other’s concerts and recordings\, and just finding big joy in playing together. \nDescribed as “an absolute master” (No Depression)\, Bruce’s take on tradition has landed him in collaborations with some of the world’s most highly respected players from roots to rock. His long association with Aly Bain and Jerry Douglas in the Transatlantic Sessions\, his trio with Aly and Swedish maestro Ale Möller\, and years of solo touring have landed him in the UK dozens of times. He is also a special guest on legend rocker Mark Knopfler’s CD\, “Tracker.” Along with Andy Irvine & Donal Lunny\, Bruce is a founding member of the supergroup Mozaik. The Grammy nominated Fiddlers 4\, Darol\, Bruce with Michael Doucet and Rushad Eggleston were at Fiddles On Fire in Gateshead. \nBack home\, Bruce and Darol tour extensively. Bruce also holds the title of “Visiting Scholar in the American Roots Music Program” at Berklee College of Music\, where he is the go-to guy for the next generation of roots musicians. \nFreestyle fiddler\, composer\, producer and educator\, Darol Anger is at home in a number of musical genres\, some of which he helped to invent. Exceptional among modern fiddlers for his versatility and depth\, Anger has helped drive the evolution of the contemporary string band through his involvement with numerous pathbreaking ensembles such as his Republic Of Strings\, the Turtle Island String Quartet\, the David Grisman Quintet\, The Montreux Band\, his Duo with Mike Marshall\, his current touring group Mr Sun\, and others. He has performed and taught all over the world with musicians such as Dr. Billy Taylor\, Bela Fleck\, Bill Evans\, Edgar Meyer\, Bill Frisell\, Tony Rice\, Tim O’Brien\, The Anonymous 4\, Marin Alsop and the Cabrillo Orchestra\, the Detroit Symphony\, Bruce Molsky\, Mark O’Connor\, and Stephane Grappelli. \nMost recently in the UK\, Darol was at Shetland Folk Festival\, London\, Norwich\, Marsden\, Sheffield\, and Cheshire.

SUMMARY:Dan Walsh
DESCRIPTION:Furness Tradition is pleased to present this concert in partnership with “Live To Your Living Room”. If you can’t make the concert itself\, you could choose to stream it at home\, or watch anytime in the following 72 hours. \nWhen Dan Walsh first picked up the banjo\, he did so with the passion and enthusiasm of a youngster who simply loved its sound. He didn’t know anything about the various playing styles\, the difference between the tenor and the five-string version\, or that he would in time become a widely acknowledged world-class proponent of the instrument. He just thought it sounded cool. \nWhat’s remarkable about the BBC Folk Award nominee\, is that he’s retained that infectious and inspiring energy right throughout his career\, and has picked up equally impressive vocal and guitar chops along the way. \nInitially captured by the drive and melody of Irish banjo\, he was soon struck by the flawless Americana of artists such as Alison Krauss\, Union Station\, and Nickel Creek. Dan has since explored the full breadth of the folk idiom – from English jigs to inventive jazz and frenetic funk\, modern singer-songwriter fare\, and even the Indian raga – but his upcoming album returns to those down-home country roots. \nAcross all his work\, he has wowed audiences with a performance style equal parts blisteringly kinetic and accessibly conversational. As well as his thriving solo career\, he’s an in-demand session musician\, recently recording with Ward Thomas and Darius Rucker\, and playing live with Imelda May and Seasick Steve. He’s also a key part of the acclaimed Urban Folk Quartet (“impossibly wonderful”\, fRoots). He has toured the world\, from Canada and the USA\, to Australia\, New Zealand\, and across Europe\, everywhere winning new fans for his rare mix of virtuosic musicianship\, moving and amusing songwriting\, and winning charm.

SUMMARY:Dave Tonge Storyteller
DESCRIPTION:Beguiling for Beginners \nBeing a celebration of cunning men\, cunning women\, coney catching\, and all manner of counterfeit craftiness. A lone trickster wanders the road\, from town to town\, village to village\, and house to house\, wearing many different disguises. Sometimes a priest\, sometimes a potter\, and sometimes a pedlar of wares. From pots to pardons\, potions to pins\, he sells them all occasionally\, but always he gifts lies. His trade is deceit\, and he practices his craft upon the foolish\, the greedy\, and the gullible. \nThe thing that really struck me is the immense energy and spirit that you put into the performance. I think that’s what gave it the wow factor! It’s so obvious that you love the stories and you love the audience response. How can you go wrong with it? – Marion Leeper\, Cambridge Storytelling Club \nWe are delighted to welcome Dave Tonge\, otherwise known as the Yarnsmith of Norwich\, who is a jobbing teller of tales. An itinerant journeyman who performs at festivals\, museums\, heritage sites\, and schools\, from Lindisfarne Holy Island in the north\, to Arundel Castle in the south. He works regularly for English Heritage and national museums like the Ashmolean in Oxford. He has written three books: Tudor Folk Tales\, Norfolk Folk tales for Children\, and Medieval Folk tales for Children. Dave specialises in telling period rich and often irreverent tales shared by the poorer folk long ago on heritage sites\, but he is happy to ditch his costume in favour of a fine trilby hat\, and can be heard at storytelling events\, including Taffy Thomas’s Tales in Trust and Festival at the Edge. \nTickets are limited to 25 only – intimate venue – booking required.

SUMMARY:Mike Willoughby’s Raving Rock “Contact Rock”
DESCRIPTION:Fund raiser for Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue Team. \nRaving Rock members Mike Willoughby (lead vocals and guitar) Rick Middleton (bass guitar and vocals) and Ben McCabe (drums and vocals) have played together for well over two decades in the popular Cumbrian roots band Striding Edge. They make music together as tight as a bowline knot: They take this approach forward with them into Raving Rock… \nRaving Rock will be playing their show\, “Contact Rock”. A celebration of all that is wild and joyous\, edgy and compulsive in rock-climbing and mountaineering. \nThe songs are based on Mike’s own climbing experiences plus the stories and lyrics of climber friends.\nThe songs explore the histories\, myths and legends that define our crags and our mountains.\nThe songs work in sequence\, a racy adventure into the psyche and the soul of the rock-climber and mountaineer.\nThe songs are interwoven with short spoken-word and storytelling pieces.\nThe songs are paired with projections of Mike’s original paintings.
