PREPARE for an emergency

Ulverston Community Resilience Information

Ulverston Resilience Group has been working with Ulverston Town Council and other local organisations to create a new winter readiness campaign. The purpose is to share guidance on how you can prepare for unexpected events, such as power cuts, flash flooding, travel disruption due to snow, etc. We’ll cover who to contact in an emergency, how to register for priority services if you need to, what to put in an emergency grab bag, how to deal with a small flood or water leak, where to find winter warm spots, etc.

We’re not in the business of forecasting a catastrophe. We’re just providing common-sense suggestions for things that anyone can do to lessen the impact of an incident, and we’ll also provide some practical help and support where we can.

Please also visit the UK national PREPARE campaign website.

Emergency Contacts List

Our first recommendation is to create an emergency contacts list. This could be handwritten, typed, or on a smartphone, whatever you prefer. Think about who you might want to contact if an incident such as a gas leak occurs, which might mean that you have to leave your home in a hurry. How would you report the incident, where would you meet up with your family, where could you stay, who else would need to be informed? The items on the list are suggestions. You may think of more.

PREPARE PSR Register

Priority Services Register

The Priority Services Register (PSR) is free to join. It helps utility companies to look after customers who have extra communication, access or safety needs. In some cases, information may be shared between utility companies, but there’s no harm in registering separately with the ones that are most important to you.

Most homes in the Ulverston area have utility services delivered by the companies listed below. If you already know that you are supplied by these companies, just click on the links for extra information and to register with them. If you are unsure, you can enter your postcode at the Priority Services Register website to be directed to your electricity and gas companies.

Water: United Utilities
Electricity: SP Electricity North West
Gas: Cadent
