VJ Day
Ulverston Town Council and the Royal British Legion would like to invite the community to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VJ Day on Friday 15th August. VJ Day (Victory over Japan Day) marks the end of World War II in the Pacific theater. It is celebrated on August 15th, the day Japan announced its surrender to the Allied forces in 1945.
10.45am – RBL short service at the War Memorial, Market Street. All very welcome to attend.
9.15pm – Ulverston Town Council beacon lighting on Hoad Hill, next to the monument. The Town Crier will read the VJ Day Proclamation, followed by a member of the Town Band playing The Last Post. The beacon will burn until approximately 10pm. All very welcome to attend, please wear suitable footwear and bring a torch with you.
